(I)Rational Brain & Behavior Lab

Psychology department @ Reed College

Research Mission

Our lab research focuses on understanding the fundamentals and common mechanisms of  'rational' or 'irrational' behaviors. We follow a multilevel approach using a variety of analytical methods (see Techniques for details) to study the brain and behavior across species. We investigate how decisions are made under uncertainty and risk, and how the use of alcohol affects decisions.

 Research topics at glance

Mechanisms of preference for information/uncertainty

Role of frontal cortex in choice regarding different types of information.

Animal model of alcohol use in decision-making

Role of alcohol experience in risky behavior.

Mechanisms of reasoning

Searching for common mechanisms in errors or fallacies in reasoning.

Augmented Reality (AR) and choice

Using more naturalistic procedures to study choice behavior in humans.
